Happy holidays! I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving was wonderful despite many folks still being unable to travel. Hopefully the news that a vaccine is on the near horizon will mean 2021 will help get us all back to normal. As of this posting, I am still accepting bookings for Christmas and New Year’s.
December is National Cat Lover’s Month! These pet holidays are also happening this month:
Dec. 5 – Celebrate Shelter Pets Day
Dec. 9 – International Day of Veterinary Medicine
Dec. 15 – Official Cat Herder’s Day (a holiday close to my heart, ha!)
Wishing everyone a fantastic Christmas, and if you wouldn’t mind, please give your kitties some scratchies for me!
Did you know that there are some cultures where black cats were/are considered lucky? I always though one crossing my path was a great thing, but believe it or not, black cats are still the least likely to be adopted from shelters and rescues. Some shelters still don’t feel comfortable adopting them out near Halloween due to past instances of cruelty toward them. I’m fortunate to have known many house panthers over the years and they’ve all been wonderful companions with the diverse personalities that all cats exhibit. Next time you’re considering adding a family member why not consider a black kitty? And be sure to let me know and you’ll receive a special discount on your next booking!
June is Adopt a Shelter Cat month. If you adopt in June, be sure to ask about your special discount on pet sitting! It’s also National Pet Preparedness Month. It’s an excellent reminder to rotate your emergency supplies for you pet or put together a kit if you don’t have one. For more information, check out the following articles from Pet Sitters International and the Dept. of Homeland Security’s Ready.gov.
May is both National Pet Month and Chip Your Pet month! It’s a great time to get your babies microchipped so they can find their way home if lost. This month is also a good reminder to update info on your microchip registration if needed.
May 3rd: National Specially Abled Pets Day
May 7th – May 13th: Be Kind To Animals Week
And of course, May 12th is Mother’s Day which I believe is certainly applicable to cat moms, too! 🙂
October 27th is National Black Cat Day! I have a special place in my heart for these guys. This can be a scary time of year for black cats due to lingering (and unfounded) superstitions. If you are lucky enough to have a house panther, be sure to keep him/her inside to keep them safe from Halloween tricks.
Advocacy alert: The Paulding Board of Commissioners is meeting May 8th and they’ll be discussing a proposed TNVR (Trap, neuter, vaccinate, return) ordinance which will help save the lives of local cats. Call your Commissioner, or visit the Best Friends link to email the Board to voice your support for this important legislation. http://support.bestfriends.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&id=561
“This week provides an opportunity to celebrate the value of professional pet sitters who work year round to offer the highest quality pet care and to also highlight what a rewarding—and profitable—career pet sitting can be,” said Patti J. Moran, PSI’s founder and president.
As a long time PSI member, Kit-n-Kaboodle appreciates everything that they do to support their member pet sitters and to promote excellence in professional pet sitting.
